Standards of Quality

Good Clinical and Laboratory Practices:
The laboratory maintains a high standard of quality in all processes and procedure it does. In addition to following GCLP standards, a number of measures have been taken to ensure the quality and integrity of data and samples generated. All laboratory staff are trained in GCLP, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and other relevant short courses like safety, data management and integrity. They have also received specialist training within and outside Uganda in the use of the different analysers.
Audits:
The laboratory is frequently audited by the Contract Laboratory Services (CLS) and by Qualogy Ltd. Regular internal audits are also conducted to ensure compliance to GCLP.
External Quality Assurance (EQA) and Proficiency testing schemes:
The laboratory participates in a number EQA programs and proficiency schemes for all assays done including those from the National Health Laboratory Services (NHLS) of South Africa, Royal College of Physicians of Australia (RCPA), College of American Pathologists (CAP) and the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD).
Validation of equipment:
Equipment in the laboratory has undergone thorough validation to ensure that it is fit for purpose and meets the manufacture�s stated specifications. This validation has been done in consultation with the Contract Laboratory Services.
Waste generation:
The UVRI-IAVI laboratory is cautious about protecting the environment. All laboratory waste is disposed off following the UVRI guidelines for safe waste disposal. The waste is sterilized by autoclaving before being incinerated from the UVRI incinerator.
